4th Alex Jeffreys Coaching Session

Filed Under (Alex Jeffreys Coaching) by Ryan on 20-12-2008

Okay module 4 of Alex Jeffreys coaching program was another jampacked three hour session.  This session was about driving traffic to your blog and using social media to do this.

Just two short months ago, I started this blog with nothing and I feel now that through this blog, I am creating value and providing useful information for many people. It really is beautiful to see a business grow from nothing.

In this coaching session, Alex Jeffreys said, if he showed as one million ways to make $1 million you wouldn’t make any money. The problem is, you wouldn’t spend enough time on the things that really need attention, and the things that really drive business. You would be overwhelmed with information… and this is how I feel, that is until I started the Alex Jeffreys coaching program. Now I have direction and am achieving results.

So now it is down to…

The Nuts and Bolts of Traffic Generation

…a topic. I have been totally confused with in the past.

Let’s get started.

Alex asked me in the coaching session. “If I want to go tuna fishing in the ocean, where would I fish?”  His answer was, “underneath an oil rig”. He was saying that in the whole entire ocean the best fishing is near and man-made structure. You see, on that man main structure grows algae and on that algae feeds clams, and these clams attract little fish, who attract big finish. The big fish attract large fish, and so on and so on.

Now how is this related to Internet marketing and my blog? Alex said to me “think of you blog as an oil rig”.  And when you add content to your blog, you are adding the algae to the rig. This algae attracts clams who start to comment on your blog, who attract customers, which are small fish, and once you start to learn how to catch the small fish it is only a matter of time until you start catching them faster. And soon you start to catch bigger fish.
But here’s the big tip to fast track is process, Alex told me to fish on other peoples oil rigs. He called it oil rig hopping

By commenting on other people’s blogs, you can engage in conversation and add value to other people’s blogs in a similar or related field. And if what you are saying is of good value, many people will click back to your blog to find out more about what you are talking about.

ie. If you provide value, people will see it and want to learn more from you.

Oil rig hopping, must be the most powerful and simple traffic building tool ever. Blogs are sticky and people return to them frequently, so traffic can become evergreen and starting flow consistently

Now you must not waste too much time on this. So you have to plan a little.

You only want to be commenting on blogs that are in a similar niche, so go to Google and search for blogs with in your keyword group. Also, make a note of the gurus in your niche and start commenting on their blogs. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT  just say “hi great blog check out mine” you need to add value to the communication, try to write full articles in your comments if possible.

You can use blog commenting to find ideas to write about on your blog by simply commenting to someone’s post by saying ” wow, that’s great information, I really enjoyed that and I am going to write about it on my blog and link back to you”.

Just remember, always create value. Your blog is your business, build your business.

Spend some time on this step, then you can go back and look at your google analytics to see where the most traffic is coming from and concentrate on those blogs that send you the most traffic.

Quick SEO tip:

the Internet is built on keywords, so add keywords to your blog. Check out this fast keyword research tip:

Just type in your main keyword into Google and look at the top 10 organic searches. These will contain highly targeted keywords, that is why they are in the top 10 in the first place. You can use these keywords on your blog, and be guaranteed to have highly targeted keywords. How simple is that?!

Alex Jeffries, quoted Napoleon Hill when he said ” you can acquire more friends in two months, showing an interest in them than you could in two years trying to make them interested in you”, the take-away message being show a genuine interest in other people and their blogs.

And since it is Christmas. He also used the Christmas card analogy of when people receive a Christmas card they are usually quick to send a Christmas card back to that person. It is the rule of giving and receiving.

So remember, you must show interest and provide value first.

This is what I plan to do:

  1. I will write some articles on traffic generation and create some videos to post on my blog.
  2. I will visit my list of related blogs and engage in meaningful conversations that provides support or add value.
  3. I will then post back on my blog to report the results of my traffic generation techniques and ask others for hints and tips on the subject.

Alex also talked about using twitter for Internet marketing however, this is a long post as it is so I think I might address twitter in another post soon.

Stay tuned for that,

Ryan

  1. Hi Ryan!

    Happy New Year to you!

A good blog you got here. Alex is an incredible coach. Am looking forward to the next module.

I have another suggestion, you can use the Google Adwords tool to check the competitiveness of the keywords too. Before, they were just showing a bar graph, but now they have become more open and show volume numbers.

I’m sure this will help you out. :)

    All the Best!
