List Building with Giveaways

Filed Under (List Building) by Ryan on 27-12-2008

In my two years of Internet marketing and trying to build a list  I had never come across Giveaways websites untill Alex Jeffreys told me here that they are one of the best ways to explode your list.

Giveaway sites are used by Internet marketers to build their lists by offering a gift in a promotion.

It is typical for these promotions to hold hundreds of gifts, and therefore there are hundreds of people driving traffic to this one site.  By submitting your gift, to this site, you can potentially gain subscribers from the combined efforts of many people.

I am participating in my first giveaway this January and I am about to share with you the way I have set up my promotion.

First, you have to find a giveaway site that suits your niche.  There are many that focus on Internet marketing, but there are also lots that offer gifts on many other topics.

You then sign up to become a contributor to the giveaway and gain access to your back office, where you can upload your gift, including a photo or picture of it, title and description.

It is completely free, to sign up as a contributor.  However, you can upgrade to a paid member to gain the ability to upload more than one gift and sometimes earn bonus points towards contributor commission.  In my first giveaway I am signing up as a free contributor.

After uploading a photo of my e-book and entering a title and description  I created a special squeeze page for the giveaway containing a picture of the e-book and a list of benefits that they will get from downloading my e-book.

I then put my autoresponder code at the bottom of the page to collect their name and e-mail address and send them to the download page.  This page acts to confirm to the customer what they are downloading and the benefits of receiving my product in return for the contact details.   This means they have to join my list, should they wish to receive my free gift.  I also put and no spam/privacy policy statement below my form.

Once they’ve entered their details, they are sent to a download page, where they can download their free e-book and are also presented with a one time offer.  This one-time offer is a small up sell.  This is another of my products that they may purchase at a special price.

It is in your best interests to make this one time offer highly relevant to the product that they are downloading.  They are more likely to purchase the one-time offer, if it is highly relevant to the gift since you know they are interested in that topic.  It will not make sense to them to buy a product totally unrelated to what they are interested in the first place.

So there you have it.  I am offering a free e-book that has great value to the niche that my giveaway services and people can download it by joining my list.  I am offering some highly relevant instructional videos, as my one-time offer.  If these people purchase these videos, I can make some bonus cash.  However, my focus is on building a list and for those who joined my list, to build a relationship with them through e-mail.

I hear to do well on these giveaway sites, you have to promote your gift with an affiliate link that they provide you.  The idea is that they want as many people sending traffic to the site as possible.  Over the next couple of days I will be implementing this.  I’m not sure exactly how I will do that but here are a few ways I could think off top of my head:

  1. advertise the giveaway on your blog
  2. tweet about it on twitter
  3. write articles on the topic for article directories and provide a link to get free e-book’s
  4. e-mail your existing list and friends.
  5. Create and upload the video promoting the giveaway, and your free e-book

I will follow up with some more posts in January, about how this giveaway is going.

Till then, goes searching for some giveaway sites yourself.
