Alex Jeffreys taught me to:

I have been sold the gurus dream. I have spent 1,000’s of dollars on the latest Adwords, email and affiliate campaigns, but now its time to move forward.

Building an online business secret:

Think of your website as real estate.

If you build up enough interest in that real estate you’ll have traffic all over it. Then it’s just a case of putting up items of value for sale on your land and people will buy.

But the secret is in building that interest and value. You can’t sell condos on top of toxic swampland. You need your visitors to want to come back again and again. You need to provide exceptional value.

Many of you may already have the foundations of a real online business, these are:

1. A domain name
2. Hosting
3. An autoresponder

If you dont have any of these don’t worry I think I will put together some instructions soon on how to aquire these and how to set them up.  They are all very low cost services and when compared to the amount of money I have wasted on money making fads over the last 2 years they are very affordable.

Once you have all three of these set up you need to forget about trying to sell a product or service and rather start building a list.

You need capture peoples names and email address… and trust me, its more important to get their name and email than it is to make that first sale to them.

Why?

Because then you have the ability to communicate with them over and over again.

As long as you’ve provided them great value in exchange for their contact details, they’re much more receptive to your opinion and more likely to buy later on down the track.

Why?

Because you have established trust. You’ve gone out of your way to create trust and deliver value. That is what will keep them coming back to your online real estate again and again.

Alex taught me this:

• Give your stuff away for free 

Alex set out to build a mailing list and launched all of his products for free, so he could spend time building a solid list (which has now grown to over 24,000 subscribers).

Why didn’t he sell his products?

It’s simple, the fact of the matter is its hard to sell to people when they don’t know who you are, but its easy to give away your product for free so they can get to know you.

Then as long as you give away value these people will stick around to hear your second message and so on until they become your fans; and thats the time you can start to sell to them as they know who you are and they now trust you.

Folks, I’m not kidding, the best way you can make money is to give stuff away for free, to build a mailing list and leverage the fact that you are the leader to these people. Give back to these people, help them and they will be loyal to you, rather than to the hype monsters out there chasing there money.

So I want you to change your mindset, from a ‘selling’ mindset to a ‘start helping people’ mindset. This will take your business to the next level.

So in summary do you still want to be chasing ‘the dream’ or do you want to start building a solid business foundation and make that dream a reality.

1. Stop looking for the magic button and create your own.
2. Plan your attack and set some goals.
3. Work on setting up your business system to give away value and build your list.
