Traffic Generation with Squidoo

Filed Under (Traffic Generation) by Ryan on 24-12-2008

Thanks in part to a conversation with Mark Austin (you can check his post on Traffic Generation here<<) I had the idea of posting the process and results of my traffic generatin endeavours here on my blog and calling them “mini-traffic-projects”.

Hopefully some of them will turn into HUGE traffic projects and start pulling large amounts of traffic to my blog and PPP but I’ll start with baby steps.

The aim is to quickly set up lots of different mini-traffic-projects and then with the tracking I have set up through google analytics spend more time on the ones that are pulling the best.

The projects that dont pull much traffic may be tweaked later but the focus will be on making the most out of the top 2 or 3 techniques that show me the greatest returns in the next few weeks.

So here we go…

MINI-TRAFFIC-PROJECT #1 - SQUIDOO

Squidoo is a website designed to make it easy for anyone, for free, to set up a single page on a topic he or she knows or cares a lot about. They encourage you to create a lens which is just another name for a single page website.

My goal is to provide some interesting and useful content on my lens and by adding some links create a way for readers of my lens to visit my blog and PPP - Simple hey?

Ok, lets get started.

Go to squidoo.com and type in what you want to make a page about to get started.

TIP #1: Think of one idea you want to write about and be specific. This should concisely describe what your lens will be about and you can use this as your lens heading and url in subsequent steps. If you have more than one idea to write about put that down on paper and create a second lens later. Keep one idea per lens.

When choosing a category i typically choose business but choose a category that is relevant to your topic of discussion.

Now its time to add content to your lens. By adding text modules you can enter text, pictures, upload photos and create just about anything - just click on the “edit” button next to each module.

TIP #2: to add a link into your text cut and paste this:

YOUR_TEXT

This will make your text a clickable link to what ever url you enter.

Then click publish.

You can see my Squidoo lens here<<

Leave a comment on my Squidoo lens.

You can then email your friends about your new lens and start promoting it on the web.

TIP #3: In a couple of day your lens will be reviewed and you will be able to submit it to groups on Squidoo - this is a powerful way of getting lots of people who are interested in the same topic to view your lens.

Ok, so I have my first lens up and running. I’ll be back in a couple of days to tell you the effect on my traffic. For now its onto looking to start my next mini-traffic-project…

Talk soon.

  1. zleNhJ Thanks for good post

  2. Hello Ryan

Well I really like the way you are looking at this, breaking this elephant down into bite size pieces; then seeing what tastes good and eating that first. You may never need to deal with the parts that don’t taste good. If you do need them maybe you can sweeten them up with some marinade.

I am going around writing down ideas from everyones blog and in a little bit I will prioritize them and start working on some new ones. Squidoo is at the top of my list. Thanks for the detailed instructions. I’ll be back to let you know how I made out.

    Robin :-)
